Protect Your Machinery in Cold Weather

January 31st, 2011 No comments

When you depend on valuable job site equipment, there are measures you can take to keep it in good condition for years to come. During cold weather seasons, using industrial lubricants is an easy and low-cost way to protect your equipment. There are many types of industrial lubricants to select from, depending on what type of machinery you have, and the protection needed. It’s important to protect your costly machinery during the winter, so it can run smoothly all year long.

Anti-seize agents are lubricating compounds made from finely-powdered metals that can protect machinery from rust fusion, seizure and corrosion. They also reduce friction between two metal surfaces. Sprayon anti-seize and lubricating compound provides protection in temperatures from 0 degrees to 2200 degrees Fahrenheit.

Long-term outdoor protectant and lubricant will protect your outdoor machinery from corrosion in humid and salt spray conditions. In addition to metals, this type of waxy lubricant can be applied to rubbers, plastics and most painted surfaces. Outdoor protectants are ideal for machinery kept in high precipitation areas.

Long-term indoor protectant and lubricant protects equipment from water displacement, rust and corrosion. This type of indoor lubricant can be used on many different surfaces.

Food grade machinery oil penetrates and loosens corrosive residue, dirt and rust to be easily removed. This non-silicone formula is non-flammable and safe to use on machinery near food.

These are some of the standard industrial lubricants, but there are many other protectants and compounds to choose from. See what type of protective agents work best for your equipment and take actions now to prevent damage later.

First Aid Supplies

January 10th, 2011 No comments

Make sure your work place is prepared for emergencies. Keep first aid kits and first aid supplies on hand at offices, job sites and other work environments.

The most common first aid supply is first aid kits. There are several types of first aid kits to choose from, including standard kits, unitized first aid kits and specialty first aid kits. Standard first aid kits are stocked with a variety of medical supplies like bandages, medication, burn treatments, eye wash, antiseptic wipes and other supplies. Most first aid kits and cabinets come with a recommendation for the number of people the kit can treat, usually anywhere form 10 to 200 people. Keep in mind that these numbers are recommendations, but you can choose the size you think is best for your number of employees.

Unitized first aid kits come with separate unit packages of supplies. The supplies are individually wrapped and can be ordered separately. This type of first aid kit is preferred by schools and companies that need to replenish their first aid supplies often. Specialty first aid kits are kits put together with a special purpose in mind. These specialties can include blood borne pathogens kits, contractors kits, burn treatment kits and more. Specialty first aid kits are ideal for workers in industries that may have more specific first aid needs.

The most important things about first aid kits, are to keep them fully stocked with the first aid supplies you need, and to keep your first aid kit in a well-know, accessible location. Employees should be aware of their company’s first aid supplies and how to use them.

ANSI Safety Vests

January 3rd, 2011 No comments

Different types of safety vests are used for different industries, but most jobs require ANSI safety vests. ANSI safety vests are certified by the American National Standards Institute. They meet certain requirements for high visibility safety clothing standards. Here’s a quick guide to the different classes of ANSI safety vests.

ANSI Class 2 safety vests are sleeveless safety vests with 775 square inches of background material and 201 square inches of retro-reflective material (1.375 inch reflective stripes). Required for workers on sites around traffic going 25 mph or higher and workers near heavy machinery, ANSI class 2 safety vests come in many styles and colors.

ANSI Class 3 safety vests are for workers who need greater visibility than what Class 2 vests offer. ANSI Class 3 safety vests are required for workers near traffic that exceeds 50 mph. These vests have 1240 square inches of background material and 310 square inches of retro-reflective material (2 inch reflective stripes). All ANSI Class 3 safety vests have sleeves.

ANSI 207-2006 safety vests are public service safety vests required for all public service officials, including law enforcement, emergency responders, fire officials and DOT personnel. These safety vests can be color-coded and customized for individual industries. Most ANSI 207-2006 safety vests are breakaway vests.
